Supersets and Drop Sets Explained

5 August 2026 3 min read

Supersets and drop sets both increase training intensity within a shorter time — useful tools, but ones that work best applied deliberately rather than in every single set.

Supersets: pairing two exercises back to back

Alternating between two exercises with no rest between them keeps a session efficient and can target opposing muscle groups or the same one for added intensity.

Drop sets: reducing weight mid-set to extend it

Continuing a set past initial failure by immediately dropping the weight pushes a muscle further than a straight set alone — useful occasionally, exhausting if overused every session.
